Supermarket Gondola Backing Panels

Back To Case Studies

Introduction:

During a walkthrough at a supermarket in 2004, Ausfab Group noticed that the retailer was using expensive pressed metal panels to conceal the structural elements of their supermarket gondolas. Recognizing the need for a more cost-effective and environmentally responsible solution, Ausfab Group embarked on a mission to find an alternative that would achieve the same result for less cost and complexity.

Developing the Solution:

Ausfab Group developed a unique snap rail attachment system that allowed for the easy installation of white polypropylene panels on either side of a shelving module. This innovative solution replaced the costly pressed metal sheets and resulted in a remarkable cost saving of over 90%. The panels were not only cost-effective but also offered flexibility in terms of colour options for categorization and the ability to be digitally printed for added impact.

Sustainability Commitment:

In 2021, in alignment with our client’s commitment to sustainability, Ausfab Group sourced an alternative polypropylene sheet made from 60% kerbside recycled waste. This environmentally friendly material seamlessly replaced the previous panels without any additional cost impact. To date, Ausfab Group has supplied 300,000+ recycled panels to this retailer’s national network of stores, contributing to their corporate sustainability goals. This system has now been in continuous use across this national retail network of 750 stores for nearly 20 years and is still the current standard for all gondolas in their stores.
