100% Post Consumer Waste Ply Board
Why Choose EKOply?
MDF and plywood are commonly used construction and manufacturing materials; however, they are not sustainable options due to various reasons. Plywood production often leads to deforestation and habitat destruction as large quantities of trees are harvested from natural forests or unsustainable tree plantations.
The manufacturing processes of both MDF and plywood involve adhesives and resins containing formaldehyde, which are harmful volatile organic compounds that contribute to indoor air pollution. Furthermore, MDF and plywood manufacturing are energy and water-intensive, with high-pressure pressing, gluing, and drying processes that impact the environment and deplete resources.
These materials also have a limited lifespan and are prone to moisture damage, warping, and deterioration over time, often leading to their disposal in landfills and waste accumulation. Moreover, MDF and plywood are difficult to recycle due to the presence of adhesives and coatings, making disposal the only option in most cases.
In contrast, EKOply, made from recycled waste plastic, is a sustainable alternative as it minimizes waste, reduces reliance on deforestation, and can be recycled at the end of its life cycle.
With thickness options of 19mm and 12.5mm, EKOply is suitable for all types of cabinet making. The rigid 8x4ft (2.440 x 1.220m) sheets have a tolerance of 0.2% in length and 10% in thickness, can be edged with standard Cabinet maker's edge banding machines, and are UV stabilized for extended life outdoors (tested for 3 years).
EKOply can be cut and screwed like traditional timber, has a significantly longer lifespan compared to timber and plywood, is rot and weatherproof, is suitable for wet conditions and temperature fluctuations, and can withstand challenging environments, including saltwater exposure. Additionally, EKOply is low maintenance, safe and eco-friendly, free from hazardous substances according to REACH regulations, and chew-resistant and non-toxic to animals.
